My allergist actually maintains that there is *no* such thing as a hypo-allergenic dog - that what you react to is the dander, which any dog has, not the shedding.

My husband is allergic to cats and dogs. He votes with the there are no such things as truely hypo allergenic dogs (despite the claims of some breeders). What helped him has allerpet C for cats and allerpet D for dogs. It is a liquid you put on the animal and it helps lower the dander (does not eliminate completely) which helps over all. When he was unimployed, it allowed him to be in the house during the day which otherwise he could not have.

Having been through all manner of allergy testing myself (including 5 days of "totally controlled living" in a hospital allergy wing), I agree that there is no such thing as hypo-allergenic dogs!
It IS the dander and this is shed regularly and continually and is normal for the dog. Regularly brushing the dander out of the hair can/may help but not if the allergic person has to do the brushing! [I] elected to keep [my] dogs and merely increased Vit. C since this is thought by some to be helpful for the allergenic!
